The Shen-su Sun Award

Awarded during plenary on Thursday 20th August

The Shen-su Sun Award is to recognize exceptional geoscientists younger than 40 years, who work in mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong in commemoration of late Dr. Shen-su Sun for his pioneering and tremendous contributions to the geochemistry of the solid Earth and mantle dynamics, and for his unselfish and boundless mentorship to younger generations of scientists in the field of Geochemistry. This Award is presented by the Shen-Su Sun Foundation.

Liping Qin Awarded to: Liping Qin
Citationist: Richard Carlson
Abstract: Chromium Stable Isotope Composition of Meteorites and its Cosmochemical and Geochemical Significance
Medal lecture in:
Session 24d in Club B/C/D on Thursday 20th August 08:00 - 08:45

Citation: Liping Qin is a professor at School of Earth and Space Sciences, the University of Science and Technology of China. Liping did her undergraduate study at University of Science and Technology of China. After completing her PhD degree at the University of Chicago in 2007, she did a post-doc at Carnegie Institution of Washington with a Carnegie Fellowship, followed by a Geological Postdoctoral Fellow at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. In 2012, Liping became a professor at the University of Science and Technology of China. Liping’s research interests focus on the timescale of planetary formation and differentiation in the young solar system, and the astronomical environments of solar system formation inferred from nucleosynthetic anomalies preserved in meteorites. Liping’s recent research also includes employing non-traditional isotope systems to trace biological and other surfacial processes.
