NSF Geobiology and Low-Temperature Geochemistry program Town Hall

Monday 19th August 12:00 - 12:45
Contacts: Philip Bennett, Enriqueta Barrera
Location: Room 127+128, CCIB View on map

The NSF Geobiology and Low-Temperature Geochemistry program are holding a town hall for scientists interested in applying to the program to learn about a) recent reports generated by members of the community and b) funding opportunities. This is also for the community to have a dialogue with the program. NSF presenters: Philip Bennett and Enriqueta Barrera.

FAIR Geochemical Data: All You Need to Know About the New Ways of Publishing

Wednesday 21st August 12:00 - 12:45
Contacts: Kerstin Lehnert
Location: Room 122+123, CCIB View on map

Geochemical data should, to the greatest extent possible, be shared, open, and stored in community-approved domain repositories that align with the FAIR principles of Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable data. Since last November, more than 100 repositories, communities, societies, institutions, infrastructures, individuals and publishers have signed up to the Enabling FAIR Data Project’s Commitment Statement in the Earth, Space, and Environmental Sciences for depositing and sharing data. Leading journals have started to implement and enforce the recommended policies for data of publications. This Town Hall will offer an opportunity to learn about the new policies, what they mean for you as a researcher and author, and how you can properly share your data "the new way".

Geochemical Aspects of Carbon Capture and Storage

Wednesday 21st August 18:00 - 21:30
Contacts: Eric Oelkers, Jacques Schott, Chiara Marieni
Location: Japanese Garden, Hotel Vincci Marítimo View on map

A townhall meeting will be held on the geochemical aspects of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) on Wednesday 21 August from 19:00 until 22:30 in the Japanese Garden of the Vincci Marítimo hotel in Barcelona Spain: https://en.vinccimaritimo.com/map/

The organizers of this townhall meeting are Eric Oelkers, Jacques Schott and Chiara Marieni. This meeting, which follows the day after session 05p “Geological CO2 Storage and Monitoring: (Bio)geochemical and Technological Insights from Laboratory Tests, Modelling and Field Sites” of the Goldschmidt conference, will allow us to discuss the current advances and future of carbon capture and storage focusing in part on the CarbFix approach of subsurface mineral carbonation in a relaxed setting promoting open discussions and exchange of ideas. We look forward to see all interested people there.
