On your plot of delta 18O vs delta D there is only 1 point for modern precipitation. Is this 1 point an average value? If so, what is the range of values?
Thanks for you question. Yes, it is the weighted average value based on monthly precipitation value from 1985~1992 at Xinan Station (near our study area). The ranges of precipitation isotopes are -17.02‰~-1.1‰ for delta 18O, and -122.7‰~0.8‰ for delta 2H during that period. (Data comes from GNIP).

Dear Xinying Ling Thanks for your report on the groundwater evolution in the Chinese Loess Plateau. If I recall correctly plaeo-soils were reported to be deposited with in the loss sequence with a cyclicity of ~ 25 ka. Thus, the age of the youngest paleo-soil remarkably well matches with your estimates on the C-14 ages of the groundwater. Please, can you comment on possible links between the occurrence of plaeo-soils and the groundwater dynamics in the Chinese Loess Plateau. Thanks and all the best - Rolf Kipfer (RoKi)
