Thank you for the presentation, can you give any more hints on the on going LA-ICPMS work? What elements and minerals is gold associated with and do you think the Au is structurally bound or as nano-inclusions?
Thank you for the question Daniel! We are conducting the LA-ICP-MS analyses on mineral phases but also on fluid inclusions hosted by amorphous silica, sulfates and sphalerite. The LA-ICP-MS analyses of sulfides from Loki's Castle and Fåvne have revealed that Au is mostly associated with isocubanite in forms of nano-inclusions rather than in crystal lattice of this mineral. At the Fåvne hydrothermal vent field, in addition to isocubanite, Au has been found as nano-inclusions in rare marcasite grains.

How does the chemistry of Loki's castle compare to TAG, and how does the chemistry of Favne compare to Rainbow?
Thank you for your question Melissa! Loki's Castle and TAG share many similarities in their mineral and geochemical features but the Loki's Castle hydrothermal vent field is strongly influenced by sediments coming from the Norwegian continental shelf and they add a continental crust geochemical signature to this site, like for example an increased Pb content that we do not see at TAG. Fåvne shares mineral and geochemical characteristics with Rainbow, including high Cu and Co contents.
