Thank you for an excellent presentation James! Were you able to conduct any additional experiments to determine the effect of groundwater flow rate, i.e., what the rate has to be before it significantly affects the Kd?
Thanks for the question Carolyn. We were not able to do any further lab experiments to determine the groundwater flow at which Kd is impacted in the study presented. However this has been identified as an important topic for follow up. As such we have a student starting at University of Leeds in Autumn this year who will consider 'grain size effects' such as velocity/retardation in more detail. We are also about to deploy passive flux meters into the Sellafield aquifer into plume zones of differing grain size e.g. gravels vs. sands. We hope this will enable differences in Sr-90 flux to be measured directly in the field, and hence to inform our fate and transport models.
