Using the conventional or spectroscopic techniques we applied to this subject, we face materials with a avery heterogeneous size distribution. In some samples we can appreciate a certain contribution from nanosized silica particles, but this is not frequent in the case studies we undertook. This mainly depends from the uses of the silica-bearing materials in the production processes
