If we only have one proxy, it is easy to interpret. However, when we have multiple proxies, the pros and cons of proxies need to be considered. Some proxies can lead to conflict results. So how do you evaluate those proxies (e.g., Mn/Ca, Zn/Ca, and Ni/Ca) for tracking the same environmental changes (say, salinity)?
Dear Dr. Li, Thank you for your question. I'm aware that different proxies can give conflicting results sometimes. In my case, the calibrations were performed using ostracods from modern sediments (surface) and environmental parameters recorded during the last 20 years in the bottom waters. I also evaluated other ocean parameters, such as dissolved oxygen or temperature, but I didn't find any correlation. In my opinion, different proxies don't give the same results because we are not considering all the variables that might control the proxy. A multivariable approach might give answer to that by adding a set of variables that control the incorporation of metals into the ostracod. Happy to discuss more, Best,
