Dear sir, my appologies, I cannot attend the live Q&A so I will post my question here: you mention at the end of the presentation that in the future you would like to collaborate with modellers to better understand the local factors influencing OA (ocean acidification?) impacts. I was wondering what type of modelling you would like to perform; regional ocean circulation models, or e.g. boxmodels and if there is a coastal model that has already been developed for the region that you would use as a starting point?
Frequently OA models based on open-ocean processes and evaluated with open-ocean data, are applied to coastal regions. This is particularly problematic when evaluating the OA impacts near coral reefs as the corals can have a strong local impact on water chemistry. I am hoping to work with regional modelers that consider near-shore processes to evaluate OA impacts. A team at UH has developed a ROMS/COBALT model that I think will work well for this purpose, but I would love to hear from anyone that is interested in modeling the near-shore waters around Hawaii.

Hi Dr. Sabine, monthly averaged pCO2 has been increasing over the past decade, I'm wondering if you see some decreasing trends in monthly averaged pH and/or omega?
Yes, I did not have time to show the pH data and it is not as complete as the pCO2 data, but it also shows a decreasing trend with time. However, the signal is quite small and difficult to see within the natural variability. We can calculate omega, but it also is not as complete because of the inconsistency of the pH measurements. However, it also suggests a small decrease with time.
