Nice work!!! The similarity of the DH_f(elem) values for CeSiO4 and USiO4 (coffinite) are in good agreement within uncertainty. Coffinite is not that rare in nature based on its occurrence in U ore localities. Any comments on a potential scenario for PuSiO4 to be "stable" in a deep geological repository?
Thank you Dr. Colon. I think that it is possible for PuSiO4 to be "stable" in a deep geological repository as is. However, I do think that PuSiO4 could form as a potential alteration phase in the unlikely failure of the system and breaching of the canister. The scenario that I see this occurring is if a pyrochlore waste form is utilized in a host rock lithology with significant amounts of halite (similar to WIPP) we would have a Pu(III) solid, such as Pu2Ti2O7, reacting with chloride rich hydrothermal solutions oxidizing the Pu(III) to Pu(IV) and forming PuSiO4 with any available silica. This is similar to how Estevenon et al. was able to synthesis PuSiO4 in their 2020 paper from a Pu(III) precursor reacting with HCl reactive media.
