Goldschmidt2020 Discord Server
Welcome to the Goldschmidt2020 Discord Help Page
The conference Exhibition, Mentoring Program, Side Meetings, and Social Events will all take place on the easy to access official Discord Server. Discord is VoIP application that facilitates text, image, video and audio communication between users and is available to download or use in your browser (download here). We have found that the downloaded app is more stable and has higher quality audio, however whilst we do recommend you install the app the conference server will be accessible from the browser version.
How To Join The Server
Once you have installed Discord you can sign up to the conference server by following this link. Discord may not be available to download in all regions and may require permissions from your institution's firewall to run correctly.
Code of Conduct
Whilst you are participating in conversations on the Goldschmidt2020 Discord Server, please do bear in mind that the code of conduct for the conference should be adhered to. You can find out more by reading the Code of Conduct here
How To Navigate The Server
Once you have joined the server you will see a list of dropdown categories on the left side of the app:
You will be able to click on these categories to expand them and view the channels they contain:
This symbol denotes a text channel where you can type your comments and view other delegate's messages. This symbol
denotes an audio channel where you can chat to other delegates (voice only or video).
To join a text channel simply click on it in the left side of the screen and begin typing. To join an audio channel simply click on it and begin speaking. You may need to ensure that your audio/video is set up correctly on your machine before doing so. We recommend that delegates wear headphones or headsets when speaking on the audio channels to minimise feedback and maximise quality.
How To Troubleshoot Your Voice/Video Settings
If you need to alter your voice and video settings in the app, you may need to alter the necessary settings. Begin by clicking here:
Then navigate to this section of the User Settings to alter your inputs and outputs:
If you are experiencing any further issues please do check the Discord FAQ for a solution to your issue.
