Geomicrobiologists and astrobiologists with extended experience in extreme environments. His group has been working for more than thirty years on the characterization of Río Tinto, a 92 km longextreme acidic river in the Iberian Pyrite Belt (Southwestern Spain). Recently has initiated the characterization of the deep subsurface biosphere of the Iberian Pyrite Belt to understand the origin of the extreme conditions detected in the Tinto basin.
