The Geochemical Society (GS) is an international organization founded in 1955 for students and scientists involved in the practice, study, and teaching of geochemistry. Our programs include cohosting the annual Goldschmidt Conference, editorial oversight of Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta (GCA), supporting geochemical symposia through our Meeting Assistance Program, and supporting student development through our Student Travel Grant Program. GS annually recognizes excellence in geochemistry through its medals, lectures, and awards. Max Planck Institute for Chemistry
The database GEOROC is maintained by the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry in Mainz, Germany. The database is a comprehensive collection of published analyses of igneous rocks. It contains major and trace element concentrations, radiogenic and stable isotope ratios as well as analytical ages for whole rocks, glasses, minerals and inclusions. Samples come from 11 different geological settings. Metadata include, among others, geographic location with latitude and longitude, rock class and rock type, alteration grade, analytical method, laboratory, reference materials and references. Currently, GEOROC contains about 1,175,000 analyses of 482,000 samples published in more than 16,000 papers.
