Student and Early Career Grants
EAG and GS are committed to making the Goldschmidt Conference accessible to early career scientists from every country in the world. That is why the conference offers travel grants and waived registration fees for student and early career delegates. These grants are awarded on a competitive basis for delegates who meet the following requirements. Please read this information carefully to determine if you are eligible and learn how to apply.
Eligibility: Need-based Grants
A limited number of travel assistance grants and waived registration fees are available for delegates who meet these criteria:
- Students: must be currently enrolled, at the time of the conference, in a graduate program related to geochemistry. Students who will graduate before 13 August 2017 are not eligible.
- Early career scientists: must be working in a field related to geochemistry and have graduated in 2007 or later.
- Must reside in a country classified as low-income or lower-middle-income economies by the World Bank
- Must fulfill all application requirements listed below by 1 April 2017.
Eligibility: Merit Grants
The GS is applying for funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). These funds may only be awarded to students pursuing graduate degrees at universities in the U.S. and its territories. A limited number of merit grants will cover only a portion of the cost of attendance, so students should pursue additional funding sources. Delegates must meet these criteria:
- Students: must be currently enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited college or university in the United States as of the date of the conference. Students who will graduate before 13 August 2017 are not eligible.
- Must fulfill all application requirements listed below by 1 April 2017.
Application Instructions
The following items must be submitted by 1 April 2017:
- Conference abstract (do NOT make payment at this time)
- Completed online application form
- Contact information for a referee, who will receive an email from the conference to submit a letter of reference
- CV in PDF format (maximum of 2 pages)
- Budget plan: provide an estimate of travel, accommodation, meals, and registration/abstract fees
Please note: all materials, including the letter of reference, must be submitted by 1 April. Therefore, applicants should submit their referee’s contact information early enough to allow him/her to send the letter of reference in time.
Application Review Process
Applicants who do not meet the criteria listed above will be automatically notified that they are not eligible. Once eligibility is verified, applications will be reviewed based on the quality of their abstracts, CVs, and references. An international committee of scientists from a variety of disciplines will review the applications between 1-21 April. The conference hopes to notify applicants of decisions by 1 May, well in advance of the early registration deadline.
