Thermo Fisher: High precision multicollector measurement strategies using 1013 Ohm amplifier technology

Tuesday 28th June 12:45 - 13:45
Location: Room 502 View on map

Presenters: Nicholas Lloyd, Product Specialist MC-ICP-MS, Thermo Fisher Scientific, GmbH
Doug Hamilton, Product Manager Noble Gas, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Ltd

During this seminar, we will present new application data on our new 10^13 ohm amplifier technology. These current amplifiers, using 100 times larger resistor values of 1013 ohm, offer improved signal-to-noise ratios when compared with ion beam intensity measurements using the standard 1011 ohm current amplifiers. As such the external precision of very small sample measurements on Faraday cups is significantly improved and opens up new fields of applications. Major focus will be on data evaluation algorithms for Laser Ablation applications using the Neptune Plus MC-ICPMS, measurement workflows for U-Pb zircon dating using the Triton Plus and Ar-Ar data using the Noble Gas MS portfolio.

EAG Cocktail Party

Tuesday 28th June 18:30 - 20:00
Location: Bay Bridge Cafeteria View on map

EAG would like to invite all members and conference delegates to its Annual General Meeting and Cocktail Party.

If you would like to be more connected with the geochemical community and hear about our society, its activities and initiatives, please come by.

The Bay Bridge Cafeteria is located on the 6th floor of the Conference Center.

We hope to see many of you there!

Thermo Fisher: New technologies for high precision clumped isotope analysis

Wednesday 29th June 12:45 - 13:45
Location: Room 502 View on map

Presenter: Andreas Hilkert, Senior Marketing Manager Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry, Thermo Fisher Scientific GmbH

Isotope ratio mass spectrometry has a long history which started with the analysis of the isotopes of CO2. Over decades, new technologies in IRMS have been introduced, such as multicollection and high resolution features. These features have opened the way into clumped isotope analysis. This seminar will focus on the technological developments in IRMS that has enabled high precise analysis of clumped isotopes and will present latest data obtained with the 253 Plus 10 kV IRMS and 253 Ultra High Resolution IRMS.

Forum - BBC World Service Radio Recording

Forum - BBC World Service Radio Recording

Wednesday 29th June 14:00 - 16:00
Location: 311+312 View on map
Website

A recording of the Forum discussion programme for broadcast on BBC World Service: your chance to speak to the world. There can’t be many better places to discuss latest research on volcanoes and plate tectonics than Japan, a country with an average of 3 earthquakes a day and 110+ monitored volcanoes. Jack Stewart talks to volcanologists Tamsin Mather and Michihiko Nakamura, subduction expert Carl Spandler, Nature magazine editor John VanDecar and members of the Goldschmidt audience. More than a thousand great minds have already taken part in a BBC Forum and we hope you will join them. The Forum encourages audience participation during the recording so here is your chance to tell the world about your work.

Towards a Global Critical Zone Network: International Early Career Meeting in Yokohama

Thermo Fisher: Investigating CO2 where and when you want it: high precision carbon and oxygen isotope analysis

Thursday 30th June 12:45 - 13:45
Location: Room 502 View on map

Presenter: HJ Jost, Product Manager IRIS, Thermo Fisher Scientific GmbH

Traditional Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (IRMS) analysis of CO2 is usually laboratory based. With the advent of laser based Isotope Ratio Infrared Spectrometry (IRIS), it is now possible to perform continuous analysis in the field or determine isotope ratios of small, discrete samples close to the sampling site. Various applications from monitoring of conference room air, to cross continental changes, from South American volcanoes to Austrian cave air will be presented. Further we discuss new applications that are enabled by the capability to analyze discrete and small samples in the lab and in the field.
