Accommodation

The conference have arranged for a significant amount of economy accommodation to be available in Florence. This will be suitable for delegates on a tight budget, or research groups looking for an apartment for up to 6 people. The deadline for booking and paying for economy accommodation is the same as that for early (reduced price) registration: June 25th. The economy accommodation can be booked and paid for using the same form as you use when registering for the conference.

The cost of these rooms is only €30 per person per night. It is likely that we will fill the whole of two residential buildings: the Luzi Residence and the Caponnetto Residence. These both contain a large number of modern, very clean and fairly spacious apartments, which have 2 or 3 twin rooms, each of which contains two beds (so each apartment has room for 4 or 6 people). All payments for this accommodation are non-refundable under any circumstances.

If you would like to be the only delegate in one of the rooms in an apartment you can select the 'not shared' option: the price of this is €60 per night. If you have someone else using the other bed in the room the cost will be only €30 per night. If you wish to request to share the room and apartment with other delegates you know are booking economy accommodation for the same nights, you can enter the details of one person to share your room, and up to four others to take the other beds in the apartment. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to arrange for the people you request to be allocated to your room/apartment, but we will do all we can to make the allocations you request. If you do not know of another delegate with whom you would like to share the room, but still want the €30 per night option, please leave the boxes for the names of other delegates empty, and we will find another suitable delegate to share the room with you.

In addition to the bedrooms, apartments also have bathrooms (shower, WC and handbasin), and a small kitchen/diner. Unfortunately the kitchens only provide the cooker and a sink. So if you want to provide your own food you should bring your own cup, (? paper) plates and (? plastic) cutlery (and any kettles / pans you would like to use). There are shops nearby where you can buy food, and coffee shops where you could buy breakfast or dinner, should you so wish.

You will have your own individual key allowing entrance and exit 24 hours per day, and each building has its own security to make sure that only Goldschmidt delegates are able to access the facilities. There are common rooms you can use to meet or work, and WiFi will be provided free of charge.

Delegates may stay for the nights of the conference (Sunday 25 pm- Friday 30 am), or may add the nights of Friday 23, Saturday 24 or Friday 30 if you are coming early for a workshop/vacation or staying until the Saturday morning after the conference. Most of the delegates will be accommodated in the Luzi Residence, which is in the Piazza Dallapiccola (a 20 minute walk from the Conference Center), and the others will be in the Caponnetto Residence which is a bit further away (on the Via Enrico Fortanini). There are also cheap buses which go most of this route fairly regularly.

Economy accommodation will be provided in the Luzi and Caponnetto Residences. The Luzi Residence is located on the Via di Maragliano, 1.8km (25 minutes walk) from the Conference Center. The Caponnetto Residence is located on the Via Enrico Forlanini, 2.8km (35 minutes walk) from the Conference Center. The location of the Residences can all be viewed from the Conference map.

For those who do not want to walk, there are regular buses which travel from near either Residence to near to the Conference Center, see map. Single tickets cost €1.20 and can be purchased in many cafe, newspaper shops and in all tobacco shops or at the automatic machines for parking tolls (blue pillars found across the city). Tickets can also be purchased from the driver for €2.00, though no change will be given.

The bus stops nearest the Conference Center are located at Florence’s main railway station and in the Piazza Indipendenza (both 500m from the Conference Center). The Luzi Residence can be reached from the railway station by line 22. The Caponnetto Residence can be reached from the railway station by lines 22 and 23 by walking 300-500 meters. Buses on these routes are frequent and run all week.
