Social Program

We are pleased to offer a very exciting social program at Goldschmidt2011. Tickets for the following events can be booked on the online registration pages, either at the same time as your conference registration, or at a later date. Please note that tickets for some events are limited and will be issued on a first-come first-served basis to those that have paid.

Prague Square

3-Hour Sightseeing Tours of Prague
Dates: Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th August 2011
Times: Saturday 2pm, Sunday 9am, Sunday 2pm
Venue: Meet outside Prague Congress Centre
Cost: 10€ per tour

Two different 3-hour city tours are offered, with a meeting point outside the Prague Congress Centre, and an English-speaking licenced tour guide. Both the Castle Tour (I) and the Old Town Tour (II) start consecutively 3 times (Saturday 2pm, Sunday 9am, Sunday 2pm) making 6 tours in total.

Tour I: The Castle
Route: Strahov Monastery - Czernin Palace - Loreto Shrine - Hradcany Square - The Prague Castle - St Vitus' Cathedral - The Old Royal Palace - Golden Lane - The Castle Gardens

Welcome Reception/Ice Breaker
Date: Sunday 14 August 2011

Venue: Floors 2 and 3, Prague Congress Centre
Cost: Free to registered delegates and registered accompanying guests (no booking necessary)

All delegates are warmly invited and encouraged to attend the Goldschmidt2011 Welcome Reception and Ice Breaker.

The conference will be officially opened at the reception, with a short welcome address. The Ice Breaker is a great opportunity to catch up with old friends while enjoying a drink.

Basilica of St George

Concert of Classical Music

Enjoy an evening of concert music at the Basilica of St George in Prague Castle, in the centre of Prague. The magnificent 11th-century Romanesque-style architecture will perfectly complement the specially selected program of classical music played live for 70 minutes - a selection from Smetana, Dvorak, Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Vivaldi, Bizet, Brahms and Handel. In the event that this venue becomes full, further concerts will be held in other historic church venues of equal splendour in central Prague.

Brevnov Abbey

The Abbey Adventure - Brevnov Abbey Dinner
Date: Tuesday 16 August 2011

Venue: Brevnov Abbey
Cost: 40€

Seated dinner in the sumptuous Theresian Hall underneath a stunning Baroque ceiling fresco. Following the meal there will be an after-dark whirlwind tour of the Abbey including St Margaret Church (by Dientzenhoffer) and the haunted 1000-year-old Romanesque excavations in the basement.

Menu: Starter; main course (selection of roast beef with mushrooms or butterfish fillet); dessert (apple strudel). Includes coffee and a drink (beer, wine or soft drink). A vegetarian alternative is available.

Online booking for this event is now closed. There may be a few tickets available on site.

Conference Music Event

Cost: Free to registered delegates and registered accompanying guests (no booking necessary)

The band 'Double Scotch' will be performing. All delegates are welcome, no tickets are required.

Municipal House

Conference Banquet
Date: Thursday 18 August 2011

Cost: 40€

The Conference Banquet will be held in Prague's Municipal House, one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau structures in Europe. It was built in 1905-11 in the very historic centre of Prague on the site of the former Royal residence. It formed the backdrop for scenes in the film Mission Impossible with Tom Cruise and Vanessa Redgrave.

Menu: Bohemian soup, roasted duck with dumplings, crepe, beer/wine and coffee. Vegetarian menu and other special dietary requirements also available on the booking form.

The number of seats is limited (1300), so please book early to avoid disappointment.
